Special Olympics Spring Games

The Special Olympics is a world-wide organization that provides an opportunity for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to play sports. In addition to providing training to these athletes, they hold events as a way for the athletes to be able to compete. When the local Special Olympics chapter held a Spring Games event, the SELU SAL members came out to volunteer. (more…)

Date Auction

In order to raise money for Relay for Life, the University of South Florida Chapter held a Date Auction. Members volunteered to be “auctioned off” as dates or as tutors for various subjects. There was a  DJ for entertainment and participants enjoyed refreshments donated by local restaurants. The event was advertised on campus and was open to all students. (more…)

New Member Welcome Ceremony

The Youngstown State University chapter holds an annual ceremony to welcome new members to the chapter.  This event is a way for new members to learn more about the chapter and begin to get involved.  This year the chapter had 25 new members that decided to attend.  They were all very excited to be a part of SAL and wanted to get involved in helping the community. Easter Egg Hunt

Every year, the University of Georgia Chapter lends a hand to the local Boys and Girls Club for their Easter Egg Hunt. Before the kids arrived, the members took bags of plastic eggs filled with candy and hid them. Once the kids arrived and the hunt began, the members monitored the kids as they searched for the eggs. The Arizona State University Chapter held a Welcome Ceremony as a way for current members and officers to welcome new members to the chapter. Garden Project

Samantha Winsky, the Chapter President at University of North Florida, had a vision to build a garden for the residents at a local retirement home.  She went to Lowe’s and Home Depot and talked to them about donating supplies.  They went above and beyond, not only donating wood, soil, plants and seeds, but also sending volunteers to help the members plant the garden!
