National Initiatives
BetterHelp

Members now have access to convenient and professional therapy online.  BetterHelp is the leading online therapy platform with over 25,000 therapists across the U.S., services in 50+ languages, and support in over 200 countries. The partnership we have arranged will give everyone one month of free therapy (up to 4 live sessions) with a therapist that is specifically assigned to your individual preferences. You can communicate with your therapist via phone, video and live chat, plus you can message your therapist whenever you’d like.  Current SAL members received an email with an invitation to join.  If you are a new member and would like more information on this benefit, please email [email protected].

Song for Charlie

Song for Charlie is a national family-run, nonprofit charity that encourages young people to choose healthy coping strategies over self-medication. They empower students to learn and share knowledge by providing research tools and promoting peer-to-peer learning programs.  Sigma Alpha Lambda is committed to partnering and supporting the mission of Song for Charlie.  We urge you to sign the pledge linked below that you won’t take random pills, you will spread the word about the dangers of self-medicating, you will find alternatives to cope with stress and pain, and you will be available to help others.  In signing, you help Song for Charlie create a future in which the casual use of prescription pills is considered socially unacceptable, and in which sharing random pills is uncool.

Take the pledge here.

Food Fight Against Hunger

Beginning in 2010, Sigma Alpha Lambda initiated a national service project called the “SAL National Food Fight Against Hunger” during which chapters from around the country join together each fall to make an impact by feeding the hungry in their local communities through food drives.   Since the creation of our Food Fight, SAL members have collected over 130,000 items and raised almost $45,000 to end local hunger.

Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is the main focus of SAL’s spring semester.  Chapters all over the United States join together in an all night activity to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones who have lost their lives to cancer, and raise money to continue the fight against the disease. Sigma Alpha Lambda is proud to be a National Youth Affiliate of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in our commitment to raise $200,000 for Cancer Research.

MLK Day of Service

SAL Members across the country participate in a “day on” instead of a day off in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Either as a group or individually, members join in service projects over MLK weekend to clean up parks, build for Habitat for Humanity, mentor children, and more.  Those students who participate earn the Servant Leadership Award from the National Office.

Charity Miles

If you enjoy exercising or creative ways to give back, then you’ll love Charity Miles. Charity Miles is an app which allows members to raise money for one of forty charities simply by walking, running, or riding a bike as they use the app. Pencils of PromiseWounded Warrior Project, and Habitat for Humanity are just a small sample of the great charities you can choose on the app.

By using the app, you can also find extra opportunities to support charities. Some examples include walking to class instead of driving, going on a hike with your chapter, or maybe adding a morning walk to your daily routine.

Another benefit of downloading Charity Miles is that you’ll be able to join team “Sigma Alpha Lambda” and help us continue to make a positive impact on the world. To date, the team has logged over 1,000 miles, and we’re looking to log much more! Click here to download the app today!
