Sigma Alpha Lambda offers the opportunity to apply for the following Scholarships and Awards on an annual basis. Links to their applications will be emailed to active members in early April.

New Member Award

The New Member Award is designated for members who have joined a Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter during the previous calendar year. It recognizes their academic excellence as well as their contribution to the chapter during their first year of membership. Award amounts range up to $500.

Path to Excellence Award

The Path to Excellence Award recognizes a select group of undergraduate members who have demonstrated outstanding achievement academically, exhibited outstanding leadership skills, or made a substantial contribution in the area of community service. Award amounts range up to $500.

Emerging Leaders Graduate Scholarship

The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is awarded to students who have maintained high academic performance, have made significant contributions to their chapter and their community, and have been accepted to an accredited Graduate Program of Study. Scholarship amounts range up to $1000.

Chapter Leadership Award

The Chapter Leadership Award is given to officers who have maintained high academic performance, demonstrated excellent leadership skills and have made a significant contribution to the operation of an existing chapter. Award amounts range up to $500.

Founding Officer Award

The Founding Officer Award is given to officers of chapters founded during the current academic year, in recognition of their high academic performance, demonstrated leadership skills and outstanding dedication in working towards the creation of a new Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter. Award amounts range up to $500.

National Academic Achievement Award

The National Academic Achievement Award is awarded to one applicant chosen from all scholarship and award applications received, who has demonstrated an outstanding level of commitment and achievement throughout the most recent academic year. Because the recipient is chosen from among the applicants for all other scholarships, there is no separate application for this award. Award amount: Up to $5000.

George Washington University Anna Orthwein Memorial Scholarship

The Anna Orthwein Memorial Scholarship at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences was established by Mrs. Jayne Orthwein, Mr. Bill Orthwein and Sigma Alpha Lambda in memory of Anna Nicole Orthwein, Columbia College ’09 who passed away on June 4, 2007. This scholarship will entail an annual award of $2,500 to a deserving student in the Columbian College of Arts and Science who has achieved a 3.6 cumulative grade point average with a demonstrated interest in contributing to the well being of others. Priority will be given to members of the GWU Chapter of Sigma Alpha Lambda.
