Shiver in the River Run

A little cold weather couldn’t stop the SAL members at Virginia Commonwealth University. They volunteered for the Shiver in the River run in Richmond by cheering on the runners, assisting with checking in, and passing out environmental bags.

The event sparked interest in SAL officers because it supported the preservation of the city’s environment and keeping it beautiful. Funds collected went to litter prevention, community outreach, education, recycling, and waste reduction. Close to 1,000 people supported the event, with half cleaning up along the shoreline of the James River and another half participating in a 5K. The event also featured live music, food and beverages, and heated tents.

It wasn’t all work and no play for the members though. They also enjoyed socializing in between their responsibilities and planning other fun events that were of interest to members.
