Hornet Connection Prague and Chili Cook-off Fundraisers
Our SAL chapters are great at coming up with creative ideas for fundraisers. The Emporia State University Chapter worked together this semester to put together several unique fundraisers. These events were ways that the chapter could raise funds while doing something different and fun.
Hornet Connection Prague Fundraiser
The Hornet Connection is a way for those in the community to learn about ESU and what students have to offer. The SAL chapter was able to be a part of it and set up a table at a basketball game. In addition to being able to get their name out into the community, the chapter used this as an opportunity to raise money for an orphanage in Prague. The table was announced during the game and members were able to share stories with the audience about their fundraising and efforts to help the orphanage.
This event was a great way to think beyond the immediate community and be able to help people in another country. The members had a great time and were successful in raising money for the orphanage.
Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser
The chapter also held a Chili Cook-Off as a fundraiser. They opened the event up for any organization to be able to enter their chili. Five different organizations participated and brought their chili. A $5 entry fee was charged to anyone attending to be able to taste the chili and vote for their favorite. SAL provided drinks and chili toppings.
A silent auction was also held at this event for people to be able to bid on items which were donated to the chapter. At the end of the cook-off, the 3 organizations with the most votes for their chili won prizes and the silent auction winners were announced. This event was very successful. The chapter was able to raise over $250! All the funds raised went toward helping six of the executive officers go to the National Collegiate Leadership Conference in Tucson, Arizona.
