Donation of Posters for Breast Cancer Support Group

SAL members at FIU has participated in fundraising and coordinating for a breast cancer awareness event in their area.  After the main event, three of them were chosen to go to South Miami Hospital where two beautiful and inspiring posters were given a home. A member had contacted local artist Eddie Gonzalez, who designed the large poster entitled “We Will Fight.”  The three members presented the amazing art piece to a breast cancer support group called “Bosom Buddies” which is run by survivor Linda Burrowes.

Chapter Vice President of Academic Achievement Kyle Zreibe explained: “Although we had the main event in October where we were able to fundraise over $400, this is was the most important part of our cause.  Though it was not financial, it was directly emotional.  By donating this poster to our local hospital, it could be a symbol of support, hope and, most importantly, courage.  When I came up with the idea, my intentions were to make sure that anyone being recently diagnosed with breast cancer, spending their day in the chemotherapy lab, or on their way to the operating room, can stop and look at the poster and ignite a spark within themselves so that they know they are strong and they can get through anything.  By presenting it to the support group, we were able to interact with these survivors as they shared their stories.  I was even given the opportunity to give my own personal story about my mother’s diagnosis this year, and how I was inspired with this idea to work with my fellow SAL officers and members.  It was a very touching evening and the ladies were greatly appreciative of the efforts SAL has done for such a worthy cause.”
