More Than Words

Sigma Alpha Lambda members at Boston University had a great time volunteering with More Than Words, a non-profit organization that uses a bookstore to empower youth who are in foster care, court-involved, homeless, or out of school. The organization stresses the importance of education, shows them how business models work, and provides job training for them. SAL members partnered up one-on-one with a teenager to sort through books and organize them throughout the store. The chapter officers have wanted to do this event for a long time and were excited when a position for them to serve became available.

“Working with those young employees with book sorting is really fun. We got to hear about their stories and how they were involved in this program. It is amazing how More Than Words is gaining recognition among the service community and more people/volunteers are dedicating their time and energy in helping the program grow,” said Lena Ho, Chapter President.
