Spirit Day/Domestic Violence Awareness
SAL’s El Centro College Chapter used their Fall SAL Spirit Day to host a carnival and to take a stand against a serious issue, raising awareness among students, staff, and faculty about domestic violence.
Members handed out purple ribbons, t-shirts, and bracelets to those who attended. At the end of the event, they held a balloon launch in memory of those they had lost to domestic violence.
Vice President of Membership Terry Felty said of the event: “We had an amazing time. There was a huge support and turnout. Many students enjoyed the event and got a lot of good information about domestic violence. So many in attendance were touched by our efforts to make everyone aware and many shared their stories and personal experiences. We had some come and ask about where they could get help for someone going through domestic violence.”
SAL as an organization is so proud of this chapter’s efforts to not only promote the values of SAL on their campus, but also to take a stand on a variety of important issues that society faces on a daily basis!
