Angel Tree
Members from the University of North Carolina Wilmington Chapter participated in an ongoing fundraiser called Angel Tree for the Boys and Girls Homes of Lake Waccamaw.
Since 1954, Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina has been a sanctuary for hurting children – a safe place for young people who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or other family dysfunction. Angel Tree is an annual collection initiative to provide holiday gifts to children at the Boys and Girls Homes of Lake Waccamaw.
This year the University of North Carolina Wilmington Chapter chose a little 5 year old girl named Faith to buy presents for. Members could either donate money to go toward buying the presents on Faith’s Christmas list or go out and buy the items themselves. They ended up being able to buy almost everything on her list, including dolls and items from the movie Frozen, a jacket, shirts, and many other things.
Members that donated said they enjoyed shopping for her Christmas gifts and feel fulfilled to know that she will be able to open gifts on Christmas this year and receive the things that she wanted.
