Grenada Street Kids
Helping children has always been an important part of Sigma Alpha Lambda. San Diego State University SAL members decided to help the children of Nicaragua through Granada Street Kids.
The Granada Street Kids organization teaches the children of Nicaragua how to make colorful jewelry. The jewelry is then sent to the US to be sold as a way to make money for their families. SAL set up a table in front of the main walkways on campus and sold the handcrafted jewelry and accessories. 100% of the money made will be sent back to the children who made them.
The project raised awareness for Granada Street Kids and for Sigma Alpha Lambda. “We constantly had people coming up to us to ask us what it was all about,” said Chapter Secretary Tricia Reed.
