Soup Kitchen Volunteering
Giving to others was a big part of New Mexico State University’s Thanksgiving plan. SAL officers and members volunteered at El Caldito Soup Kitchen the day before the big holiday. They arrived bright and early and were immediately put to work behind the scenes. A few of the team organized the walk-in refrigerator and disposed of expired items while the rest of the group sorted through the remaining six smaller refrigerators. They also cleaned during their four-hour service project.
“By the end of the event we were super tired but it felt really worthwhile. As a result, we will create a standing volunteer opportunity for all SAL members,” said Chapter President Maria Carmona-Montalvo.
