Many SAL chapters are going above and beyond collecting cans for SAL’s Annual Food Fight Against Hunger and are also volunteering at food banks and soup kitchens this Fall. Members from the Grand Valley State University Chapter went to the Feeding America warehouse in Grand Rapids, Michigan to see what they could do to help.
The members worked with other volunteers from the community to sort food that was coming into the warehouse and check whether or not the products were expired. Chapter Treasurer Maggie Kopas said, “It was nice to be able to be part of the system that gets food off the trucks and into the mouths of people in need.” Through this event, the members were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how Feeding America works and be a part of providing food to hungry people.
