Scot Fest
Members of the UCR Chapter of SAL recently volunteered at Scot Fest, a free carnival of sorts that was a part of homecoming weekend. The attendees at the carnival were UCR alumni, parents of students and current students. The carnival consisted of various food trucks, some student group performances, bounce houses, photo booths, caricatures, carnival games, interactive booths, and a raffle at the end.Volunteers arrived at 11:30 in the morning to set-up and stayed till 4 in the afternoon to help clean up. UCR provided the booths and carnival game materials, so SAL members only had to set-up, run the booth, and clean-up at the end. Their booth was a football toss with a wooden football player posted with a hole between his raised forearms. Players were given three attempts to throw the football in. If a player lost they still received a UCR Homecoming beaded necklace, but if they won they received a SAL pen or keychain. Noted Chapter Secretary Constance Logan, “In being there our chapter was able to help represent, along with the other clubs and organizations volunteering, one of the organizations that UCR has to offer. Aside from helping assist with the event, a level a team camaraderie was established.”
