The Next Door
Many of SAL’s chapters find ways throughout the semester to get out into the community and help out a local organization. Members at Middle Tennessee State University spent a day at The Next Door, a half-way house for women. They put together a meal for the women of chili, cornbread, salad and cookies.
Service projects such as this one give SAL members the opportunity to give back to their local community and meet real people who are struggling. At The Next Door, the staff encourages the volunteers to eat the meal they prepare with the women. This is an encouragement to the women and an opportunity for the volunteers to hear their stories.
