Holiday Cards!
This season a common service idea was to send cards to people who may need an extra pick-me-up. This is a great service project because it is easy, inexpensive, and truly appreciated by the recipients.
The most engaging and active leadership roles are filling the role of a Chapter officer. This is an opportunity to develop hands on experience in communication, project planning & execution, team building, and time management. Elections occur once per year, typically in early spring. Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl SAL members and officers at the University of Alabama recently volunteered at the Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl to help serve food to the hungry during lunchtime.
Toy Donation for Hospital Children The University of Alabama Chapter recently collected toys and made goodie bags during one of their chapter meetings, and some members then visited the DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to deliver the donations to the children’s wing.
Goodie Bags for Hospital Children The University of Alabama Chapter recently joined forces with another campus organization, combining a chapter meeting with a social and community service activity to make goodie bags for the children in the pediatric wing of the local hospital in Tuscaloosa.
Temporary Emergency Services The University of Alabama Chapter of Sigma Alpha Lambda volunteered at Temporary Emergency Services of Tuscaloosa County on Friday, October 24th. Members helped to sort summer and winter clothes, organize racks of clothing, and transport bags of clothes within the store.
Beat Auburn Beat Hunger 5k Members of the University of Alabama Chapter registered and ran the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger 5k. Proceeds of this 5k go to Beat Auburn Beat Hunger, which provides food to families in the West Alabama area for the majority of the year. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members help by challenging Auburn University and the Food Bank of East Alabama to see who can collect more non-perishable food to help the needy.
