Mike Chi Phu, former President of the California State University Long Beach Chapter of SAL, was honored with a number of achievements recently.  He received certification from the CSULB Leadership Academy, received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Bronze level, for 2011-2012 as well as being named to the Dean’s List.

Mike’s accomplishments also include being selected as a student speaker for the Education Opportunity Program’s Recognition Ceremony and receiving a special invitation from the CSULB President, Dr. F. King Alexander, to come to his office and have a conversation on Mike’s accomplishments and future goals.

Mike graduated in Spring of 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and a minor in Theatre Arts.  He said, “I am proud to be the first in the family to graduate in high school, community college, and now, a four-year university.”  He plans to get his masters in counseling in higher education and his PhD in Special Education.  Mike’s passion is to help college students, and his goal is to pursue a career where he can make a difference in the lives of college students.
