Kid’s Art Fest

The Grand Valley State University Chapter is great at coming up with fun ways to make a difference in their community.  For this event, they volunteered at Kids’ Art Fest, an event put on by Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.  The event was a way to get kids involved with art and learn to express themselves through various forms of art.

It was estimated that over 8000 children and parents attended the event, and as volunteers, SAL members helped to supervise and assist a number of creative stations.  Members volunteered for 3 hour shifts throughout the day.  The different stations included painting with watercolor, sculpting with clay, jewelry making, face painting, the imagination playground, and working with the acts on stage.

Alex Johnson, the Chapter Treasurer, worked at the Imagination Playground and said “It was awesome to be able to give the kids an avenue to express their creativity.”  This event was a lot of fun for all the members and they hope to be able to come back next year.
