Rise Against Hunger

After donating food to local food banks during Food Fight Against Hunger, East Carolina University’s SAL chapter chose to volunteer for Rise Against Hunger Food Packing in their Greenville, NC, community. They sorted through bags and boxes of donated items while getting to know other residents of the city. Volunteers would pack as many bags as they could, eager to hear the gong from event leaders every couple thousand of bags.

Cara Hairston, ECU Chapter President, said of the event, “Even though all we did was put rice in bags and the bags in boxes, we all loved how intimate of a service it felt. Our chapter would be happy to do something like this again where we get to help those in need and have a good time making connections while we do it.”
