Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Day SAL members from our University of Louisiana Lafayette Chapter recently volunteered at a local Habitat for Humanity build project!

Operation Christmas Child Wrapping Party Members of the University of Louisiana Lafayette Chapter donated gifts and helped wrap them for an event called Operation Christmas Child for the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief organization.

Chelsea Mouton

Chelsea Mouton, 2012-2013 Chapter President at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, was honored with the Dean of Community Service Excellence in Service Award. She has completed a total of 674 volunteer hours that have all been verified through the President’s Volunteer Service Award program. These hours include a number of SAL events as well as many hours above and beyond volunteering through SAL.

Youth Service America Food Drive The SAL chapter at the University of Louisiana Lafayette was the winner of one of Youth Service America’s Sodexo Youth Grants of $500. With this grant, they had to organize a service project that addresses childhood hunger on Global Youth Service Day. The chapter held a very successful food drive on campus, with all donations going to Acadiana FoodNet.

Youth Service America Grant Every year, Youth Service America awards 100 Sodexo Youth Grants of $500 each to support youth-led service projects in the United States that address the issue of childhood hunger on Global Youth Service Day. Chelsea Mouton, the VP of  Community Service at the University of Louisiana Lafayette Chapter, spearheaded the effort to apply for this grant. Because of her efforts, the SAL Chapter at the University of Louisiana Lafayette was a recipient of one of these awards this year.
