Leadership Opportunities

The most engaging and active leadership roles are filling the role of a Chapter officer. This is an opportunity to develop hands on experience in communication, project planning & execution, team building, and time management. Elections occur once per year, typically in early spring. Scholarships and Awards

Scholarships and Awards range from $100 to $5000 and are available for both undergraduate members as well as members furthering their academic endeavors through post-graduate study. Applications are available at the beginning of April each year and are due to the Scholarship Committee by the end of May. For more information, please view the Scholarship page.

Mike Chi Phu, former President of the California State University Long Beach Chapter of SAL, was honored with a number of achievements recently.  He received certification from the CSULB Leadership Academy, received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Bronze level, for 2011-2012 as well as being named to the Dean’s List. Central County Health Expo

The Central County Health Expo is an event held in Grove City, CA, where anyone can come to receive health care for free. In this tough economic time, not everyone has health insurance or can afford to see a doctor. At the expo, people are able to receive vision services, medical services and dental extractions and fillings. This expo was the most successful to date, and provided health care to over 2000 participants. (more…)



CSULB’s SAL Chapter chose to help TreePeople watered recently planted trees to help them grow.  SAL President Mike Phu said, “Planting, watering and taking care of trees are important to us because they give cooler temperatures, cleaner air, replenish groundwater supplies and most importantly, make the world more beautiful.” (more…)
