SAL Chapter Receives Special Recognition

El Centro College’s Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter has been recognized for the second year in a row at the school’s annual Student Recognition Awards. SAL was awarded in the category of Distinguished Service. The chapter has worked hard this year, making a difference in the lives around them through fighting hunger, helping the less fortunate in their community, battling sexual assault, and more. They won their division of SAL’s Food Fight Against Hunger while simultaneously collecting purses, hygiene products, and backpacks for Genesis Women’s Shelter. They filmed a PSA on sexual assault awareness and received pledges from 200 people who agreed to report or stop sexual assault.

In addition to the group award, Vice President of Membership Terry Felty received an award for Outstanding Student in an organization. SAL member Demetrius Bomer received an award for Outstanding Student Employee.

“Small but mighty” is a description easily ascribed to this chapter that constantly finds creative ways to get others involved and make a difference in their community!
